We will also inbox students with any relevant updates and inform parents.

Our careers adviser at Brownhills Ormiston Academy is Mrs Murphy.

Mrs Murphy is based in the careers room (147) on Mondays and Wednesdays.

All students in year 11 are offered a minimum of one careers guidance meeting – although more can be requested if further support is required. Parents and guardians may also attend the meeting.

All students are able to access careers advice in the careers drop in enrichment opportunity every Monday lunchtime in the Library.

Self and parent referrals can also be made and students in all years can request an appointment by emailing or seeing Mrs Adams in person.

Students may also be referred for an interview by a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Head of year or member of the pastoral team. Contact Details Email: [email protected]

How 1-2-1 CEIAG interviews support our students

Careers guidance interviews are aimed at supporting students in making decisions about their future.

This can include:

  • Career goals and exploring wider options
  • 6th form, college and apprenticeship information
  • Support with choices and application forms
  • Discussion around strengths and matching suitable careers
  • Use of online programmes to support learners in researching information on careers
  • Questionnaires to help learners to identify what they might be interested in
  • Advice on work experience and volunteering
  • Advice on gaining part time work
  • Completion of an action plan to identify their next steps
  • Information on specific careers of their choice
  • Raising aspirations and looking at positive actions around revision and aiming higher
  • Support with any concerns that learners may have, through mentoring
  • Helping learners to contact employers or education provider

This is an excellent way for our students to hear what local companies, public sector, Universities, sixth forms and apprenticeships have on offer. Students talk to a range of different people to gain an understanding of what their jobs entail or the different roles available, and the skills that are needed to be successful in today’s economy. Many are inspired to look into new possibilities for their future.
